Breathwork Exercises for Children by Smarana Healing
Children as young as 18 months are able to notice and begin to name emotions. By two years they are able to self-regulate and learn to control their emotions by connecting to their breath. Teaching children to breathe provides them with a simple but effective strategy for slowing down, both mentally and physically, helping them to take notice of how they’re feeling and to relax or calm down in the face of overwhelming emotions. Regular mindful breathing practices teaches emotional awareness and introspection from an early developmental stage.
